Britney Spears has sold the rights to her music catalog, Rolling Stone reports. The news was first broken by TMZ. The terms of the deal—including what was included in the sale and how much it was sold for—have not been made public. Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Spears and Primary Wave for further comment.
Founded in 2005, Primary Wave has spent the last two decades on a catalog asset tear, scooping up the music rights of Bob Marley, Smokey Robinson, Prince, James Brown, and Whitney Houston, among others. In 2020, Stevie Nicks sold her publishing rights to Primary Wave for $100 million.
Spears has released a total of nine studio albums, including her last record, 2016’s Glory. Her most recent release was a 2023 single with will.i.am called “Mind Your Business.” In 2021, Spears’ 13-year conservatorship was terminated.
