Set to premiere on Nov. 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO Max, The Shuffle will serve as the first release in a new series of short films surrounding the NFL.

Directed by Jeff Cameron, who worked on HBO’s Hard Knocks series, The Shuffle will feature contributions from four out of the 10 player-singers from the Chicago Bears Shufflin’ Crew, including wide receiver Willie Gault, linebacker Mike Singletary, quarterback Jim McMahon and safety Gary Fencik.

Released in December of 1985, “The Super Bowl Shuffle” phenomenon grew with every win from the vaunted Bears and became immortalized when the ’85 team won Super Bowl XX in blowout fashion against the New England Patriots in January 1986.

Produced by Richard E. Meyer, “The Super Bowl Shuffle” reached No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is certified gold by the RIAA. The track was nominated for best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocals, but lost out to Prince’s “Kiss” at the ’87 Grammy Awards.

Two other notable Bears players who put their vocals to the test for “Super Bowl Shuffle” were superstar running back Walter Payton, who passed away in 1999, and the larger-than-life defensive lineman William “The Fridge” Perry.

The 40-minute documentary is slated to feature brand new interviews and never-before-seen footage detailing how “The Super Bowl Shuffle” became part of pop-culture history, while examining its impact 40 years later.
