It’s game time.
In honor of the College Football National Championship Game, Lil Wayne has teamed up with ESPN for a new commercial, which features a brand new song from the Young Money boss. In the nearly four-minute clip, which aired during the Clemson-LSU game last night, Tunechi takes over a New Orleans jazz club and puts on a show for an intimate crowd.
The “pride of Hollygrove” spits some bars about his favorite sport while joined by Young Money’s own Poppy H, trombone player Corey Henry, and his band the Treme Funktet.
“Ball like the playoffs,” he raps on the aptly-titled “Playoff.” “Get down and lay down / Lay down and stay down / Can’t take a play off / Can’t take a day off / Workin’ my A off.”
Weezy has more music on the way. He is gearing up to release Funeral, his first album since 2018’s Tha Carter V, next month. The long-awaited project may feature contributions from Lil Baby, Big Sean, and London On Da Track. Last month, he shot a video with Lil Baby for an undisclosed track.
“I loved his voice at first and it kinda reminded me of me when I was younger,” Wayne told XXL of the “Woah” rapper. “And then I started actually listening to what he’s saying and he talk about the struggle a lot and he’s talking about some real stuff.”
