Acclaimed Ghanaian-Australian artist, Genesis Owusu, graced the airwaves of BBC Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Jack Saunders on July 11, 2023, as he debuted his latest single “Tied Up!” The pulsating new track serves as the second release from Owusu‘s eagerly anticipated second studio album, “STRUGGLER“, set to drop on August 18, 2023.

“Tied Up!” is a collaborative effort, with Genesis Owusu, Sol Was, and Kofi Owusu-Ansah credited as the songwriters, while Sol Was and Henry Was assumed the production duties. The track’s visual representation comes in the form of an evocative music video directed by Lisa Reihana.

In a candid conversation with host Jack Saunders, Genesis Owusu shed light on the thematic underpinnings of “Tied Up!“. He said, “That’s exactly what it’s about, man. I feel like this album “STRUGGLER” at number two, all about finding your way navigating through like absurd and confusing world. This song is kind of about maybe, you know, we can’t control what’s on the outside, but we can always try looking into it to change our perspective and our mentality about how we move forward.”

Owusu further elaborated on his perspective, noting, “Life has been so fast paced, and so hectic, it’s been a big change in gears that I’ve had to get used to. There’s been a lot of glitz and glamour from the outside looking in. But like the song I think it’s about looking inwards and maybe trying to shift perspectives a bit. Always trying to look for the positive and the way that just keep moving forward.”

His upcoming album, “STRUGGLER“, consists of 11 distinctive tracks, each carrying a unique sonic signature. The production reigns were handled by accomplished producers, Jason Evigan, Jeff Gitelman, and Smile High. When talking about his album, Owusu expressed, “That’s kind of what I’ve always used music for. I think it’s always just been a way to get things off my chest. I think that’s kind of power I’ve learned to communicate when these kinds of things get a bit heavy. I think whatever I put up a large body of music. It’s me opening up more and more.”
