Serena Williams Says Her Crip Walk At Kendrick’s Superbowl Performance Was ‘Absolutely Not’ To Diss Drake

In what seems to be a twist of events, Serena Williams has gone on record to say that her crip walk at Kendrick‘s Superbowl performance was not at all to mock Drake. In fact, according to her interview as part of the Time’s 100 Most Influential People Issue, Serena is quoted saying, “I would never do that. And that was sad, that anyone would ever think that. I respect how they could.”

But that is not all. Clarifying her stance further, Serena remarked, “Obviously I can see how someone would think that. But absolutely not. I have never had negative feelings towards him. We’ve known him for so many years.” Which, to be fair, really is fair enough by itself.

After all, most people give less credit to the fact that her doing the dance was more of a personal statement than a dig at somebody else. How quickly we forget that Serena is a top tier athlete who was humiliated for representing her culture; the Superbowl performance was merely a reclamation of a moment lost in the past.

While Kendrick fans may be disappointed that her performance wasn’t yet another double entendre or sub directed by Kendrick, it isn’t all that bad. After all, Kendrick cared enough to let Serena have her moment of reclamation — which is really what Kendrick’s music, at its core, truly represents. What do you think?
