This week has been an interesting one for album releases.
Clipse, made of Pusha T and Malice dropped their highly anticipated new album Let Got Sort Em Out. It came after a sort of rollercoaster ride for them who parted ways with Def Jam over apparent creative differences and partnered with Roc Nation distribution for a license deal.
The album is currently projected to move 90k copies in the first week with about 40k out of that coming from pure sales, reports HDD. This is surely a strong number for an indie release but it tells you that solid music and a robust press campaign is still the way to go.
Travis Scott and his Jackboys crew disrupted the market with a surprise drop JACKBOYS 2 on Friday as well. It is currently on pace to debut at #1 with 253k copies in the first week. Around 188k out of that is set to come from pure sales (D2C).
Justin Bieber’s surprise drop SWAG is projected to move 165k copies, powered by a strong streaming opening week of 200 million or so.
