Tyler, the Creator made his feature film debut in Marty Supreme, and the Grammy-winning artist reflected on his foray into Hollywood with a post to Instagram on Monday (Dec. 29) featuring behind-the-scenes photos from his time on set.
“MARTY SUPREME IN THEATERS NOW, GLUE YOUR EYES OPEN,” he wrote. “What a time. thank you thank you josh. started shooting this movie same week CHROMAKOPIA came out. what a blast. i love jumping head first into something new. not being good not being bad just raw newness.”
Tyler continued: “Go see it on the big screen, dont save this watch for a couch and phone distractions, go outside. big love to the whole team sh-t big silly. wally.”
Tyler stars in the prominent role of Willy, who’s a taxi-driving friend of Marty Mauser (Timothée Chalamet), and joins the aspiring professional ping pong player on plenty of his dangerous escapades throughout the film.
In addition to Chalamet, Marty Supreme’s cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Shark Tank‘s Kevin O’Leary, Fran Drescher, Sandra Bernhard, magician Penn Jillette and Abel Ferrara.
Tyler received love from Busta Rhymes as well as his Marty Supreme co-star, Luke Manley, whom director Josh Safdie found in a New York Knicks Sidetalk video. “You killed it man,” Manley wrote.
Marty Supreme opened with over $27 million at the box office, according to Variety, in its four-day opening set following its Christmas Day (Dec. 25) release.
At the A24 film’s surprise premiere in NYC in October, Tyler explained why he was “beyond grateful” for Josh Safdie to cast him in Marty Supreme.
“I’m so grateful, beyond grateful. I play piano and put on cool clothes. I do not act at all,” he said. “This man is so good that I trusted him and said, ‘Anything you need. I don’t want to read this script. I will show up and be there.’ Because I trust this man and the way he curated and handled every detail. And the team, working with y’all, it was so wonderful. I got emotional up there because you gave me a chance.”
Tyler, the Creator will look to build on his banner 2025 heading into the new year, where he’ll compete at the Grammy Awards with six nominations.
