JAY-Z Says Kendrick-Drake Battle Went Too Far: Watch

One of the most elusive people in hip hop, Jay-Z, finally sat down for an interview with GQ, and he had a lot to address. From contemplating on being labeled a capitalist to his thoughts on the Kendrick-Drake beef — Jay-Z touched on all he could.

Upon being asked if he selected Kendrick to headline Super Bowl to spite Drake, Jay-Z spoke at length about how it wasn’t personal. According to Jay, it’s just the fact that Kendrick was having a “monster” year. He shunned all rumours of wanting to hurt Drake with the move, saying that he’s Hov — he doesn’t need to (respectfully).

That said, Jay-Z also spoke on the nature of diss culture in hip hop and wondered whether it is even needed. According to him, perhaps collaborations are a better instrument of measure when it comes to measuring artistic credibility. He spoke about how, to him, the Kendrick-Drake battle went too far — almost wishing it did not happen. Check out the clip below!

JAY-Z says the Kendrick Lamar / Drake beef went too far and admits he “almost wishes” it didn’t happen:

“In this day and age, it’s so much negative stuff that comes with it ,that you almost wish it didn’t happen.”
