Just like his Paper Route Empire labelmates, East Memphis’ Big Moochie Grape was hand-picked by Young Dolph who saw a tireless work ethic, unfettered determination, and inexhaustible love for the art of rhyming in the young street favorite. Now, with Dolph looking on, Big Moochie Grape remains as focused as ever on the mission at hand as he releases the video for “In Dolph We Trust” from PRE’s recent compilation album, Paper Route Empire Presents: Long Live Dolph. Over a booming instrumental featuring a chilling interpolation of “Carol of the Bells,” Moochie spits his rawest rhymes yet, rapping, “Don’t wanna hear the bulls**t, it’s irrelevant/N****s ain’t f***ing with me like I’m celibate/Been going dumb, but they know I’m intelligent/Got on the mic and I been straight ever since.”
The video for “In Dolph We Trust” shows Moochie and his black-clad crew flashing their signature Paper Route Eye of Providence symbol, interspersed with bird’s eye views of the Memphis streets and a veil of red, bombarded with scattered inscriptions of “Ha,” akin to the Joker’s laugh. A fitting nod to the Clown Prince of Crime, Moochie embodies the persona of a villain scorned, rapping with a cold-blooded conviction that can turn a classic Christmas carol into a haunting, harrowing hymn.
Released in late January, Paper Route Empire Presents: Long Live Dolph features contributions from almost every artist on the label, from rising stars like Key Glock to relative newcomers like Paper Route Woo. Spanning 8 tracks, the project points to a bright future for the label that the King of Memphis built from the ground up. The project is home to “Proud,” a moving and defiant new single from Key Glock, which earned over 4 million views in its first 3 days of release and garnered praise from The New York Times, among others, and “Love For Me,” featuring a new verse from Young Dolph. With additional appearances from standouts like Kenny Muney and SNUPE BANDZ, as well as Brooklyn’s Joddy Badass and Chicago’s ChiTana, who point to the diversified vision Dolph developed for PRE that extends beyond his hometown, Paper Route Empire Presents: Long Live Dolph is available everywhere via Paper Route Empire, and will soon be available to purchase on vinyl.
Stay tuned for tons of new music from PRE in 2022, including Big Moochie Grape’s upcoming mixtape, East Haiti Baby, and more!
