Even though Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s “WAP” is eligible for the Grammy Awards, Pitchfork reports the raunchy track won’t be submitted to compete at the 63rd Annual Award show in 2021.
Instead, “WAP” will be submitted next year for the 2022 awards as part of Cardi’s highly-anticipated sophomore album rollout, which still is without a release date. Since “WAP” dropped before the August 31 eligibility window closed (August 7), it could have made noise at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
“WAP” is still holding strong at No. 3 on this week’s Hot 100 chart dated October 17. The Ayo & Keyz-produced banger has been on the charts for nine weeks now, and the Colin Tilley-directed visual has compiled well over 200 million views on YouTube. It initially broke the record for the largest streaming debut week for a song ever.
In the meantime, Cardi is coming off a wild birthday weekend in Las Vegas. The Bronx native was spotted hanging with estranged husband Offset and a bunch of close friends as she ushered in her 28th revolution around the sun.
The Bronx native filed for divorce in September, but it looks as if the former power couple could be reconciling and getting back together in the near future. Cardi and the Migos rapper shared a kiss during the birthday party after he gifted her a brand new Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which is worth an estimated $330,000.
