Chase Icon, an internet pop sensation, has just released a new single titled “Club Cooter,” which she wrote and recorded from her bedroom. As an independent artist, Icon enjoys the freedom to create and release music on her own terms without the need for anyone’s approval. “I’m a business diva, so I like things to move quickly over here,” she tells PAPER.
“Club Cooter” is a homage to the electro-clash genre that Icon feels is missing from today’s music scene. She uses the instrumental of Felix da Housecat’s 2001 track “Silver Screen” almost entirely as-is, and transforms Miss Kittin’s “elegant and poetic” vocals into something more playful for a new, queer generation.
The track, which premiered with a visualizer, features Icon’s signature style of hilarious one-liners and overflowing arrogance. In the video, Icon sports a peroxide wig and big, black sunnies as she poses for a security camera. The song’s lyrics include, “Bitches in my biz, while your man is in my butt. I got bleach blonde bangs, so I’m looking like a slut.”
If Icon’s 2022 EP, The Girlfriend Experience, was an introduction to her world as of late, “Club Cooter” is just a stop along the ride. “I wanna let people come up with their own takeaway on what it means to take a trip to Club Cooter,” she says. “Maybe it’s a place in my imagination, maybe it’s a private party for all my little chasers, or maybe it’s the hottest spot in OC, and you just weren’t invited.”
With “Club Cooter,” Icon continues to carve out her own unique path in the music industry, unapologetically embracing her individuality and creativity.
