Drake Speaks On His First Impression Of Future On ‘Magic City’: Watch

Drake is out doing podcasts and interviews and cameos again, and this time, his presence in a new documentary has revealed more of his thoughts on other artists. On a new docuseries Magic City: An American Fantasy, Drake has revealed his first impressions of rapper Future.

Drake spoke about how he first heard Future— in a “bum ass studio in Toronto” thinking “this guy is high as f**k.” He admits it seemed like “they were from another planet,” which is of course, a reverent way of describing how Future changed the sound of Atlanta forever.

The scene then transitions into speaking highly of Future, and criticisms regarding the repeating phrases that are now a signature sound. Perhaps it is a reminder to all musicians of early criticisms, and how unwelcome innovations may go on to be immortalised. You can watch the full conversation as part of the Magic City series that out for viewing now! Here’s the excerpt from the aforementioned scene:

Drake recalls the first time he ever heard Future:

“I was just like, ‘This guy has to be high as f*ck.’”
