Drakeo The Ruler Finally Released From Prison Following 'Sudden' Plea Deal Offer

Compton, CA – Drakeo The Ruler was in a Compton courthouse for trial on Monday (November 2) where he accepted an unexpected plea deal for time served from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office — and just like that, Drakeo was on his way home.

On Wednesday (November 4), he shared a video of himself to his Instagram account with the caption, “Guess who out YEAH EXACTLY.”

YEAH EXACTLY

A post shared by DRAKEO THE RULER (@drakeotheruler) on Nov 4, 2020 at 2:57pm PST

The burgeoning 26-year-old rapper was found not guilty of murder and attempted murder in July 2019 but was kept in jail due to two gang-related charges that relied on the assumption his Stinc Team rap group constituted a gang.

The jury was hung 10-2 and 7-5 for acquittal on the gang-related charges, but the District Attorney’s office opted to retry Drakeo for those charges, holding him for a year in jail without bail. Despite the acquittal on the murder and attempt murder charges, he was still facing life in prison if convicted.

The new plea deal follows L.A. County DA Jackie Lacey’s failed bid for re-election on Tuesday night. Reporter Jeff Weiss, who’s covered the case extensively, tweeted the good news.

“Incredible news: The DA suddenly offered Drakeo a plea deal for time served,” he wrote. “He took it. The Ruler will be coming home tonight. @IamMRMOSELY is free.”

He later added, “It’s unquestionable that L.A. voting out Jackie Lacey last night played a major role in the DA’s decision,” reporter Jeff Weiss tweeted. “We have every reason to be cynical, but this was a case where collective action and organization actually paid real-life dividends. The nightmare is over.”

It's unquestionable that LA voting out Jackie Lacey last night played a major role in the DA's decision. We have every reason to be cynical, but this was a case where collective action and organization actually paid real life dividends. The nightmare is over. #DrakeoIsFree
