| In the past year, Dro Kenji has established himself as a wordsmith, a master of melodies, a star on the rise, and most recently, a world builder. His music videos feel less like a production put together to showcase a song, but rather, an opportunity to step into Dro Kenji’s universe and experience those songs in their natural habitat. After growing organically into a fan favorite since Kenji performed the track continuously on tour prior to its release on his debut album, WITH OR WITHOUT YOU, today, Dro Kenji shares the music video for project highlight, “USED2KNOW.” The track, a fast-paced foray into a painful relationship, showcases Kenji’s mellifluous melodies as he postulates how his once-open heart became a broken one.
The Aylo-directed video for “USED2KNOW” builds on the dreamlike world deep inside Dro Kenji’s mind that he first offered a look into on “VANISH,” and later expanded with “FINDERS KEEPERS,” ft. Internet Money and Scorey. As Kenji takes mental inventory of his plentiful pain and replete remedies, he makes sure to look over his shoulder as demons of malicious memories lurk in his wake, though they never make contact as Dro Kenji’s past seems as weighed down by him as he is by it. WITH OR WITHOUT YOU arrived after a banner year for the young artist, which saw him embark on his first headlining national tour, which he wrapped up with a performance at Rolling Loud California. 2021 also saw Kenji release two new mixtapes, including EAT YOUR HEART OUT, this past spring, featuring “KILL CUPID” ft. $NOT (13+ million Spotify streams), which received an animated video, and the early summer’s F*CK YOUR FEELINGS, which saw the rapper flex and reflect over 16 tracks of expansive Internet Money production, and features highlights like “SUPERSTAR” and “TRANCE.” Never one to rest on his laurels, Dro Kenji is only just starting his rise.
