Eminem Honors Proof on 20th Death Anniversary with Heartfelt Tribute

Few figures in hip-hop history have shared a bond as deep and transformative as Eminem and Proof. As a cornerstone of the Detroit rap scene and a pivotal influence on Marshall Mathers’ career, Proof was more than just a collaborator; he was a brother and a guiding force. On the 20th anniversary of his passing, Eminem took to social media to share a deeply personal and emotional tribute to his late friend.

The message, which resonated with fans worldwide, highlighted the enduring nature of their friendship and the void left by Proof’s absence. Eminem reflected on the early days of their journey, recalling the moment they first met on the steps of Osborne. It was there, while handing out flyers, that they began rapping for one another, sparking a creative and personal connection that would change the trajectory of Eminem’s life forever.

In his heartfelt message, Eminem wrote, “Doody, can’t believe it’s been 20 years since you’ve been gone! Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you in some way, shape or form… You were and are still truly one of the greatest friends I ever had in my entire life, and I thank God every day that he put us in each other’s lives.”

Eminem emphasized the crucial role Proof played in his professional development, particularly in building his confidence during the early days of open mics and club performances. “Your credibility was enough to open people’s minds to not judge me until they heard me,” he noted. The tribute serves as a poignant reminder of the human side of the rap icon, underscoring that despite the fame and accolades, the loss of a true friend remains an indelible part of his story. As he concluded, “I love you, doody. You will always be my best friend no matter how much time passes.”
