Ex-Bad Boy Rapper G. Dep Freed From Prison After 13 Years

Rapper G. Dep, who was one of the stars to break out from Diddy’s Bad Boy Records label, has been released from jail after more than 13 years.

The 49-year-old (actual name Trevell Coleman) was one of 16 individuals who received mercy from New York Governor Kathy Hochul towards the end of last year. Once his sentence was commuted, he became eligible for parole sooner than his original date in 2025.

The Harlem, New York native was finally released from prison on April 4 and he documented the experience on his official Instagram for the world to see. He was greeted with a prayer circle outside Fishkill Correctional Facility in upstate New York and then enjoyed his first post-prison meal at iHop.

In 1993, the rapper, who was eighteen at the time, attempted to rob someone in East Harlem, New York. Dep fired three shots in response to the victim’s resistance, subsequently identified as 32-year-old John Henkel, then left the scene without checking on him. After struggling with drugs, in 2010, Dep walked into a police precinct and finally turned himself in, and was handed the prison sentence two years later.
