Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten will contribute a cover of Massive Attack’s “Angel” to the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man soundtrack. The feature-length spinoff of the crime series premieres in theaters on March 3, and hits Netflix on March 20; the soundtrack is out the same day via Milan Records. Check out a teaser for the movie below.
The new version of “Angel” is one of two Massive Attack covers on the soundtrack, which also features a rendition of “Teardrop” from Irish singer Girl In The Year Above. Other highlights across the record include an original song from Amyl and The Sniffers’ Amy Taylor, a freshly-recorded version of Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand,” and a new song from Chatten and Lankum, “Hunting The Wren.” A lead single from the soundtrack called “Puppet,” which Chatten wrote with Peaky Blinders composers Antony Genn and Martin Slattery, is out now. You can listen to that below.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man picks up in 1940, a few years after the original series’ finale, and follows crime boss Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) as he navigates personal and professional demons against the backdrop of World War II. Rebecca Ferguson, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, and Barry Keoghan also star. Peaky Blinders proper aired its final episode in 2022.
“Puppet” marks Chatten’s second new song in as many weeks. On February 12, he shared the track “Flag” with Damon Albarn and Kae Tempest, which appears on the forthcoming War Child benefit compilation Help(2). The last time Fontaines D.C. and Massive Attack collaborated was also on a benefit record, Ceasefire, released with Young Fathers in 2023. All profits from the EP went to Doctors Without Borders’ aid in Gaza and the West Bank.
Fontaines D.C. released their most recent album, Romance, in 2024. Although Massive Attack haven’t shared any new music since 2020’s Eutopia EP, they confirmed last year that they’ll release “a cache of work created in the recent past” on a new label (but not on Spotify) in 2026.
