St. Louis native EP Onenonly isn’t your typical rapper. He blends sharp lyrics with infectious beats, creating a unique and versatile sound.
Describing his style as “versatile,” EP can rap on any beat with rhythm. He’s come a long way since his beginnings, when his focus was on lyrical content with repetitive hooks. Now, he incorporates bridges, lengthier hooks, and boasts a smoother delivery.
Inspiration strikes EP in various ways. Sometimes, a catchy hook inspires him to find a beat that complements it. Other times, pure inspiration leads him to write lyrics first, then find a beat that reflects the desired mood and message. However, hearing the right beat often ignites his creative spark, and he’s off and running.
While music is his passion, EP acknowledges that his artistic side extends beyond the microphone. He enjoys drawing and painting, a creative outlet he plans to revisit in the future. His ultimate dream retirement involves owning a farm, indulging in his artistic pursuits, and playing music.
EP lives by a simple motto: “Just keep going and trust the universe.” This philosophy is evident in his diverse discography, exemplified by tracks like “Coo Whip,” “Say Less,” and “LMK.”
For “Coo Whip,” he aimed for a catchy song with a little bit of everything lyrically. The beat sparked the creative flow, and the lyrics followed suit. “Say Less” was born in the shower, with the hook and accompanying dance moves igniting his excitement. He raced to capture the inspiration, finding the perfect beat and crafting the verses while the spark was still alive. “LMK” came together at the gym, where the beat inspired the bridge during a basketball game. He left the court determined to finish the song, completing it that very day.
When it comes to record deals, EP Onenonly recognizes that every artist’s situation is unique. He acknowledges the pros and cons of both signing with a label and pursuing independent distribution. He remains open to both options, highlighting the importance of finding the path that best suits his individual journey.
Looking ahead, 2024 promises exciting new releases from EPs. Fans can expect the Milks Gone Bad project to drop in the later part of the year. He’ll also be collaborating with various producers on smaller projects throughout the year, along with dropping regular singles. The highly anticipated “Eric Peterson Story” is slated for 2025.
