Joey Bada$$ isn’t resting post his recent battle season. The New York emcee took on many rappers from the West Coast — from Ray Vaughn and Daylyt, to Reason and in some senses, even Ab-Soul. Now, he’s coming back with a full length project.
That’s correct; Joey is releasing his upcoming album on August 1st. The project is titled Lonely At The Top, which seems to be a celebration of what was arguably one of the finest battle runs in the mainstream, in a long time. The only one who had a better battle run in recent time, of course, is Kendrick Lamar — but that’s not an emcee Joey Bada$$ is scared of, as he’s made clear multiple times (albeit in the spirit of healthy competition).
All that is left is to see what Joey has up his sleeve. Fans will obviously be waiting for a project that could potentially outdo his masterpiece 1999 project— but will it? Or was the battle run all? Chances are Joey pulls through with equal amounts of technique and thematic dexterity. Gotta wait for August 1st! In the meantime, check out the lead single from the album:
