Lizzo is clapping back at her critics.
The “Truth Hurts” rapper, who’s been known for promoting a body positive image, came under fire from some of her supporters after she tried a 10-day smoothie cleanse to “reset” her stomach after experiencing gastrointestinal issues.
“So I drank a lot and ate a lot of food and f**ked my stomach up in Mexico so I decided to do JJ Smith’s 10-day smoothie cleanse,” she said in a TikTok video.
Lizzo explained that the smoothie cleanse wasn’t motivated by a “dramatic weight loss,” but was done after a particularly rough November, which included a lot of drinking and eating spicy foods.
By days nine and 10, Lizzo said she felt “amazing” and was “proud” of her results, including improved sleep, hydration, and mental stability. “I feel and look like a bad bitch,” she said. “I’m a big girl who did a smoothie detox.”
However, some of her critics claimed she was trying to promote diet culture and that this would potentially encourage her fans to experiment with unhealthy dieting habits.
@lizzo Big girls do whatever u want with your bodies!!! I’m just as proud of my results from my smoothie detox as I am of my belly curves and swerves ❤️
But Lizzo is not making any apologies for her detox. “I got exactly what I wanted out of it,” she said, adding, “Every big girl should do whatever the f**k they want with their bodies.”
She also celebrated her “belly curves and swerves” by posting a topless photo of herself, while encouraging her fans to do whatever makes them feel comfortable.
“I detoxed my body and I’m still fat. I love my body and I’m still fat,” said Lizzo. “I’m beautiful and I’m still fat. These things are not mutually exclusive.”
She added, “To the people who look to me, please do not starve yourselves. I did not starve myself. I fed myself greens and water and fruit and protein and sunlight. You don’t have to do that to be beautiful or healthy. That was my way. You can do life your way. Remember, despite anything anyone says or does DO WHAT YOU WANT WITH YOUR BODY.”
