Brotherly love.
On what would have been his 28th birthday on Sunday, Mac Miller’s older brother, Miller McCormick, took to Instagram to honor the late rapper. In his heartfelt note, McCormick recalled the first time he saw his baby brother in the hospital.
“sitting by the window in the hospital after your birth is a good first memory. mom’s nurse brought mint jelly,” he wrote.
He also expressed how proud he is of his little brother. “man i’m so proud of you. and i miss you,” he said before musing over what they would be doing if Mac was alive. “i’m mad that we won’t be sitting on a porch talking about baldness. and babies. maybe there’s a version of that still.”
The emotional tribute continues, “hard to let go. wish you were really here. bet they throw a good party. you’re the best, hope you know it. funny, kind, messy. old tender wisdom. love you, love you. big smelly bear hug.”
Fans and friends including Juicy J, Thundercat, and Chevy Woods also paid tribute to Mac with birthday messages on social media.
His music and legacy lives on. On Friday, Mac’s family released his final album, Circles, which he was working on prior to his death in September 2018. The album, a companion to 2018’s Swimming, has been receiving positive reviews and is expected to sell 175-200,000 units in its first week.
