‘Not Like Us’ by Kendrick Lamar Debuts at Number 1 on Billboard Hot 100

What seemingly became the Los Angeles anthem over the past few days, Kendrick Lamar‘s ‘Not Like Us‘ has officially cemented its position at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Kendrick now has a total of four songs that have been a number 1 hit on the Hot 100.

This is a notable albeit unsurprising feather in Kendrick’s hat, for the song has unapologetically represented the sonics of Compton and Kenny’s ability to constantly innovate with fresh deliveries. Impressing fans across the globe, the song had already crossed over 73 million streams in a mere 5-day period of its release.

By May 10th, the song has cemented itself in streaming history by being the most streamed hip hop song in a single day with 12.8 million streams on Spotify.

Come May 11th, a day after, the lyrics had already been viewed close to 5 million times on Genius alone, marking a strong comeback in the listeners’ willingness to bring back lyrical hiphop. A true testament to this are also the Genius charts, which boast songs from the Drake-Kendrick exchange still in their top 10. Guess he’s Certified Boogeyman all, eh?
