Pusha T Reveals Departure from Def Jam Over Request To Censor Kendrick

Pusha T is a true rapper’s rapper, and he’s proved it once again in new information that has just been revealed. According to Pusha T, the reason Clipse was dropped off the Def Jam roster was over a censorship dispute.

In an interview with GQ, speaking candidly on the matter, Pusha T recalled how Def Jam wanted him to ask Kendrick to censor his verse on a collaborative record.

Push, being the king he is, flat out refused to entertain such a thing. After the censorship requests failed, Push was requested to take the record off. Yes, he also denied this request, which resulted in a phone call from Def Jam.

It was actually a lawyer at the label by the name of Steve Gawley who called to deliver the unfortunate news. “We’ll just drop the Clipse,” he said and well, the rest is history. Perhaps these unfulfilled destinies is what makes the upcoming Pharrell x Clipse project worth the wait.

The incident itself is a testament to Pusha T’s credibility as a rapper, for it is considered unsportsmanlike to ask a collaborator to tweak or temper down their verse. What do you think?
