Garage-rock maestro Ty Segall is returning with a double dose of new music. On August 28, the prolific artist will release both a full-length album, Chrome, and a companion EP, Love Fuzzz, via Drag City. Following a period of experimental shifts and the back-to-basics approach of his previous work, Possession, Chrome is being positioned as his most maximalist project in years.
The accompanying EP, Love Fuzzz, serves as a collection of outliers from the Chrome recording sessions. Notably, the EP features a reimagined version of the track “Love Fuzzz,” originally from his Twins era, now updated with an additional “z” in the title. Fans can get their first taste of the new material with the lead single, “Black Paint,” which is available now.
The music video for “Black Paint,” directed by Alex Bulli, captures the energy of Segall’s live performances. The track features his current backing band, consisting of Ben Boye, Evan Burrows, Mikal Cronin, and Emmett Kelly. The recording sessions for the LP took place at Sonic Ranch under the guidance of producer Cooper Crain. Despite taking a rare year-long hiatus from releasing a full studio album, the industrious Segall remained active, having released the “Live” “At” “The” “BBC” EP with his band, the Muggers, earlier this past January.
