U.S. Girls Announce Album, Share Video for New Song: Watch

Meg Remy has announced a new U.S. Girls album: Scratch It, the follow-up to 2023’s Bless This Mess, is out June 20 via 4AD. The new album’s lead single is the 12-minute “Bookends.” Watch the track’s music video below. Scroll down for U.S. Girls’ upcoming tour dates.

Remy co-wrote “Bookends” with Edwin de Goeji. The song is a tribute to the late Power Trip singer Riley Gale. And, discussing the music video, director Caity Arthur stated: “The video is ultimately about death and absolution—how death is one of the only certain things in life; the ‘great equalizer,’ nolens volens. However, it also subverts the traditional narrative of death as a despairing void, rather, portraying it as a euphoric transitory experience or new beginning through a hallucinatory ensemble cast, a 1960s pop-star performance, and sleight of hand magic. As the video progresses, the TV channels alternate through these scenes as Meg’s lyrics evoke death in its various forms.”

Remy made Scratch it with guitarist Dillon Watson, bassist Jack Lawrence, drummer Domo Donoho, keyboardists Jo Schornikow and Tina Norwood, and harmonica player Charlie McCoy. They recorded the album over the course of 10 days.
