‘Aquaman’ Director James Wan Shares Health Update After Sudden Hospitalization

James Wan has been preparing to release the Aquaman sequel that stars Jason Mamoa as the famous DC Comics superhero. A round of reshoots was completed for the film back in June, and fans can expect to see the next installment in the DC Extended Universe on December 20.

The first Aquaman, which Wan directed, was released in 2018 and made over $1 billion at the global box office. The film was a part of the DCEU, and it’s unclear if this iteration will be featured in James Gunn’s attempted revamp of the company’s comic book film adaptations.

According to Gunn, the upcoming Superman: Legacy, which is scheduled to drop in 2025, is the first movie in the new DCEU canon. Dwayne Johnson recently revealed what happened to his canceled plans to take over the DCEU with his film Black Adam.

“I think that Black Adam got caught in a vortex of new leadership, and at that time, as we were creating Black Adam, developing it, shooting Black Adam, we got knocked down a little bit because of COVID and the shutdowns, and got back up—there were so many changes in leadership,” Johnson said.

He continued, “As you know, anytime you have a company, but especially that size and magnitude, that is a public traded company—and you have all those changes in leadership, you have people coming in who creatively, fiscally, are gonna make decisions that you may not agree with philosophically. I think Black Adam was one of those movies that caught in that web of new leadership.”
