Experimental musicians Duval Timothy and Carlos Niño have announced a new collaborative album titled Rain Music. The project is scheduled for release on May 22 through their respective independent labels, Carrying Colour and CNF. The album features a notable list of contributors, including Navy Blue, Laraaji, and Nate Mercereau.
The creative process for Rain Music began with a studio session in south London, where the duo blended Timothy’s prepared piano compositions with Niño’s intricate percussion work. The collaboration evolved into a remote project, with the artists exchanging ideas between their homes in London and California. During this phase, Niño expanded the sonic palette by incorporating additional musicians, including double bassist Michael Alvidrez, saxophonist Darius Jones, and woodwind specialist Aaron Shaw.
Rain Music arrives as a follow-up to Timothy’s 2025 release Wishful Thinking and his recent work on the soundtrack for Akinola Davies Jr.’s film My Father’s Shadow. Meanwhile, Niño continues to maintain a prolific output as a percussionist, following recent projects such as his collaborative LP with Saul Williams and the latest release from Carlos Niño & Friends, Bubble Bath for Giants.
