It wasn’t too long ago that we saw Joey Bada$$ coming in swinging. Be it acting or rapping, Joey has been on a roll recently, and has no plans of stopping anytime soon. Yes, the rapper who took on West Coast pretty much by himself is ready with an album releasing August 29.
To hype the album up, Joey has released a new song called ‘Dark Aura,’ a record that is reminiscent of Joey’s most polished work in 1999. Sliding over what seems to be an upright bass riff and a rimshot heavy, minimalist drum beat, Joey showcases why he’s a master at his craft even when not beefing with upper echelons of rap.
Recently, Joey became all the rage on the Internet when he called out his label Columbia Records for pushing back his album. “All they do is get in the way, contribute to nothing,” Joey could be seen ranting on IG. The rapper had claimed his album wasn’t delayed due to sample clearances or collaborations, but solely because of Columbia Records pushed it back.
Now, upon hearing the track, maybe it’ll make sense as to why Joey was mad at his label for keeping away some of the most pristine hip hop music from fans. Check it out below!
