Meek Mill Previews Three New Tracks, Including One That Flips Classic Big Pun Sample

Meek Mill has previewed a few new cuts, and on one of the track’s he flips a classic Big Pun joint — check it out below.

The Philly rapper took to social media on Wednesday (August 3) to share a serious of clips of him in the studio playing three new tracks, as Young Guru, who helped engineer  Meek’s Grammy-award-winning comeback album Championships, looks on.

In one of the clips, Meek plays a trap-infused track that samples Big Pun’s “It’s So Hard,” which featured Donell Jones and appears on Pun’s 2000 posthumous album Yeeeah Baby.

“I had asked this stripper are you trnya leave or throw these ones at ya lol,” Meek captioned the post, quoting the snippet. “FINISH THIS OR NAW???”

T.I. shared his enthusiasm for the track and commented with a crown emoji.

The other two tracks previewed on Meek’s Instagram also garnered a positive response in the comments.

“They say it cost to be the boss so I expect to pay the bill,” Meek captioned one of the posts. “And I expect to do some favors but I expect you keep it real … and I’m expecting them to hate me the way I shine this shit fr … but I ain’t respecting n-ggas “ falling out about no money or no girls.”

Vory was adamant about his love for that song, commenting: “I WITNESSED THE HUNGER OF THIS SHIT GETTING RECORDED !! You know this my shitttt.”

The teasers arrive after Meek Mill recently announced he’d be dropping some new tunes starting in August to honor the anniversary of his father’s death. The rapper wrote on Twitter that by the fall he plans to flood the streets with 10 independent mixtapes following his split with his Roc Nation management earlier this year.

“10 tapes independently starting September,” he wrote. “New music dropping AUGUST 18 the day my dad died is when I start wylinnnnnnn again. I’m not dropping albums on Friday either!”

Meek Mill followed up Championships with Expensive Pain in 2021, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with an estimated 93,000 total album-equivalent units earned. The achievement earned Meek his fifth consecutive Top 3 debut.

The release of Expensive Pain stirred up some controversy, however, as Meek aired out his Atlantic Records team at the time and accused them of being unsupportive during the project’s rollout.

“They didn’t put nothing into expensive pain and then said I can’t drop another project for 9 months at the end of my contract after I made them 100’s of millions,” he tweeted in February. “How would [sic] can anybody survive that … most rappers can’t speak because they depend on these companies ‘I don’t.’”
