To promote his upcoming, self-produced debut album, Mikey Vee is thrilled to announce the release of his first single, The Artist, available everywhere since May 12, 2023.
Inspired by 17th Century painter, Rembrandt’s painting, The Artist in his Studio, this Kendrick- esque track, cover art, and music video are bathed in Baroque symbolism, hard-hitting flows, classical instrumentation, creativity, and even humor. Mikey Vee is successfully able to bring together artists of various disciplines to showcase his community and culture. What’s more, there is an added element of humor displayed by special guest, Lil Mikey.
This track is a proud anthem and call to action for artists all over, to express themselves with pride in their work. It also teaches about finding connections in an increasingly DISconnected world. “If a Filipino rapper from the Bay Area can somehow relate to the emotion in the works of a Dutch painter from the 1600s, then others can learn to connect more with those around them.”
Michael Villanueva is a Filipino-American hip-hop artist, rapper, and producer from Daly City, CA. After a short stint with Filipino rap group, Doyen, Michael began his solo career under the rebrand, Mikey Vee. Since then, he has released a slew of original and innovative music influenced by artists like Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye, Andre 3000, Pharrell, J Cole, Kendrick, Drake, Chance the Rapper, Smino, JID, and more, differentiating himself from the typical Bay Area sound with unique wordplay, impactful lyrics, catchy hooks, and versatile style.
