Nilüfer Yanya is back with her first new single in two years. “Like I Say (I Runaway)” arrives with the news that Yanya has signed to Ninja Tune. It also comes with a music video directed by Yanya’s sister, Molly Daniel, that follows her sprinting off into the distance as a runaway bride. Check it out below.
When explaining the backstory of “Like I Say (I Runaway),” Yanya said: “It’s about how you choose to spend your time. Time is like a currency, every moment. You’re never going to get it back. It’s quite an overwhelming thing to realize.”
Painless, Yanya’s sophomore album, came out back in 2022. The expanded version of that record includes special remixes of its lead single, “Midnight Sun,” by King Krule and Sampha, as well as a cover of PJ Harvey’s “Rid of Me.”
