North West Previews New Music Sampling One of Ye’s Most Underrated Tracks

Like father, like daughter. North West is looking to follow in her dad, Ye’s (formerly Kanye West), footsteps as a dual-threat artist and producer.

North previewed some unreleased music on her TikTok Live earlier this week, and one track finds her sampling her father’s 808s & Heartbreak track “Coldest Winter.”

The electropop tribute — which interpolates Tears for Fears’ “Memories Fade” — pays homage to Ye’s late mother, Donda West, who died in November 2007 from coronary artery disease and post-operative complications related to cosmetic surgery.

North’s hard-hitting beat features punchier drums than Yeezy’s original, but uses the same melody, aided by Ye’s haunting vocals faintly in the background.

Back in January, North previewed a collaboration with her father on social media. “All my friends are hits, you know I’m not lazy/ You’re so angry that I’m so mainstream,” she raps. “I’m not sure I’m crazy/ I want more piercings and tats/ I love blue hair, put it in some plaits/ Put the music to the max/ I want like a hundred thousand racks.”

Days later, a blue-haired North joined Kanye in Mexico City on the La México stage at his first Mexico show in 20 years. She accompanied her father for his performance of the emotional “Only One.” North remained on stage and also performed her “Piercing on my Hand” track.

North stayed busy in 2025, where she notched a collaboration with FKA Twigs, which saw her rap in Japanese on Eusexua standout “Childlike Things.” The 12-year-old also contributed to the Ye-produced “Lonely Roads,” which landed on King Combs’ Never Stop EP.

According to Rolling Stone, North signed a record deal with Larry Jackson’s Gamma in February and has more new music on the way. It’s a family affair as Ye also signed to the independent music company earlier in 2026.
