Rap heavyweights Rick Ross and French Montana, who have collaborated on numerous tracks throughout their careers, are set to transition from studio partners to stage rivals. The two artists have officially been announced to face off in an upcoming Verzuz battle.
The highly anticipated clash is scheduled for May 7 at 9:30 p.m. ET. The event will take place at the Apple Music Studios in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live via Apple Music.
Rick Ross is no stranger to the Verzuz platform, having previously participated in a battle against 2 Chainz in August 2020. That performance was widely praised, with many critics and fans alike giving the “Biggest Boss” the edge in the contest. Conversely, this event will mark the first time French Montana headlines a Verzuz battle.
Given their extensive history of working together, the battle promises to be a nostalgic journey through their shared discography. Fans can expect to hear collaborative anthems such as “Stay Schemin,” “Pop That,” and “Marble Floors,” alongside their more recent efforts like “Nobody” and “Minks in Miami.”
The announcement has already sparked significant conversation within the hip-hop community. Former Hot 97 producer Scottie Beam expressed confidence in Ross, stating, “This will be Rick Ross’ easiest win ever.” Similarly, Tyrese, who recently faced off against Tank in a Verzuz battle, voiced his support for the Miami rapper, noting, “I promise I love French… Rick Ross got this one.”
As the date approaches, social media discourse has already begun to heat up. Some fans have humorously speculated that the battle might inadvertently turn into a showcase for Drake, given that both Ross and French Montana boast a deep catalog of successful collaborations with the Toronto superstar. “This is gonna be a battle of who got the best Drake features,” one fan joked on X.
Tune in on May 7 to see which of these rap titans takes the crown.
