T-Pain Reveals He Makes More Money From Playing Video Games Than Music

T-Pain has always considered himself an avid gamer but during a recent interview with Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast, the autotuned crooner revealed he actually makes more money live streaming on Twitch than he does through his music.

“I’m making more money off of video games than I have made in the last four years,” T-Pain said. “Just playing them. Playing video games.”

He continued by saying he has no idea why Twitch keeps throwing him money, especially since he considers himself terrible at video games.

“I think that’s what makes it better,” he said. “I mean there are definitely good players out there that make a ton of money, but I think the entertainment that comes from somebody like me being trash at it, I think that’s just more valuable and more entertaining.”

Elsewhere in the interview, he explained how his music career actually sank so low at one point he went completely broke.

“After I went through that whole episode I found out if I would have known that other artists have gone through this, people I look up to if they would have just said, ‘Look, it’s not all great. It’s not gonna be fine this whole time.’ If I woulda known that, I would have been mentally prepared, first of all, I would have prepared myself financially.”

He continued, “I would have put something aside, but, you know, from the people that came before me…’Nope, this whole thing is just money, all the time! You good at something? It’s money, always!’ Nobody has ever been like, ‘So this goes away after a while.’”

With that being said, T-Pain’s music career has fully rebounded in recent years. He dropped a new track titled “Just The Tips” in May and is currently in the midst of his Road to Wiscansin Tour. Starting on Wednesday (June 8) he’ll perform two nights at Chicago’s House of Blues before he heads off to Milwaukee and Texas.
