Wale Sets Rap Twitter Ablaze Pulling Out Of Star-Studded Broccoli Festival
Wale is one of the most polarizing rappers in the game today, and he’ll let it be known when he’s not rocking with something that doesn’t align with his beliefs. On Tuesday (February 1), the Folarin II rapper had social media buzzing when he announced he was pulling out of the annual Broccoli City Festival, which is held at the RFK Festival Grounds in Wale’s hometown Washington D.C.
There initially wasn’t a clear reason why Wale pulled out of the festival. Things got interesting when Broccoli City organizers tweeted the all-star lineup for the 2022 edition that included festival headliners 21 Savage, Ari Lennox, Lil Durk, Summer Walker, Wizkid, Gunna and Don Toliver. Wale was coupled with Jeezy, Rico Nasty, Tems, Larry June and more, who are performing before the closers.
“I’m Pullin out this show,” Wale tweeted after Broccoli City Festival organizers made their announcement.

Fans began connecting the dots and presumed Wale was upset with his placement and set time. That assumption was only fueled even more when one fan asked the DMV native why he pulled out, and he said it had to do with “Respect.”
Respect is why

Wale fielded all sorts of reactions from fans who either disagreed or sided with his reasoning for canceling his appearance.
“It’s weird his hometown not making him the headliner. He is supposed to be the hype! DC mad rude. Most hometowns roll out the red carpet for their homegrown celebs. Not here,” one fan tweeted.

Another said, “Wale hasn’t had a no. 1 album on the Billboard 200 since 2015 & has only had 2 top 40 hits on the Hot 100 since 2013. Pulling out of Broccoli City Festivsl because you’re not a headliner is childish.”

Wale did respond to that fan saying, “Never said nothin bout headlining . U not checkin the facts . U should prolly delete this until u have facts .”
Despite Tuesday’s lively Twitter discussion, Wale still hasn’t really explained why he’s not performing at the festival this year. Only time will tell if he ever does get the chance to shed light on his reasoning.
