Drake Used To Rent A $5K-A-Month Rolls-Royce To ‘Keep Up Appearances’ – Now He Owns It

Drake boasts one of the most enviable car collections in Hip Hop, par for the course for one of the best-selling artists in the game. But as the Toronto megastar celebrated his 35th birthday on Sunday (October 24), he added a new toy to his garage that carries extra special significance.

In the middle of his birthday celebrations, Drake took to Instagram to show off the Rolls-Royce Phantom his manager and DJ, Future The Prince, gifted him. Not just any Rolls-Royce Phantom, though; it’s the exact same car Drake used to rent for $5,000 a month to “keep up appearances” while recording his 2009 breakout mixtape So Far Gone.

“Back in 2007 we used to finesse this Rolls Royce Phantom rental to convince people in the city we were destined to make it,” Drake wrote in the caption. “I used to scrape together 5k a month somehow to keep up appearances.

“We whipped this to Ottawa to see @belly and @cashxo and to Montreal for my first show ever. I used to pick up @ovoniko and roll every day or wait outside @nebzilla class for her. Park outside 15 Fort York while me and @ovo40 and @oliverelkhatib would be upstairs cooking what would eventually become So Far Gone.”

In his post, Drake discouraged people from over-stretching themselves financially in the name of flexing, but admitted that fake-it-before-you-make-it approach was nevertheless crucial to him reaching his goals.

“Even though I don’t recommend putting yourself in financial trouble for material things I realize now that this was just my way of extreme manifesting,” he put. “I needed to see it and feel it and have it to believe that I could see and feel and have anything I wanted.

“Today in 2021 my brother @futuretheprince tracked down the exact car I use to stress over and gifted it to me… it’s mine now. Manifestation complete. Thank you for all the love and appreciation and gifts and texts and dm’s… more than just loved I feel truly appreciated and that is the only gift I ever needed.

“TREY FIVE EASY MONEY DRIZZY. Let’s get this shit. BLICK EMMMMMM.”

A new whip isn’t the only birthday present Drake received. Young Thug also spoilt his “Way 2 Sexy” collaborator by gifting him a custom Eliantte chain featuring a picture of Drake and his four-year-old son Adonis on one side of the pendant, and a diamond-encrusted OVO owl head on the other.

In a video captured on social media, Drizzy is seen reacting to the chain while on the phone with Young Thug. “That’s real love,” he said while patting his heart. “Thank you.”

Drake brought in his 35th birthday with a Narcos-inspired Halloween costume party at Goya Studios in Los Angeles on Saturday night (October 23). Rocking a leather fringe jacket, bolo tie and cowboy hat, the Certified Lover Boy was joined by the likes of J. Cole, Future, Offset, YG, French Montana, Kawhi Leonard and his father Dennis Graham.

Of course, Drake hinted at hanging up his mic at 35 on 2016’s “Weston Road Flows” (“I’m assumin’ everybody’s 35 and under/That’s when I plan to retire, man, it’s already funded”), but he later rescinded that statement during his interview on the Rap Radar Podcast in 2019.

“Nah, not anymore,” he laughed when asked about retiring at 35. “I think when I was, like, 20-something it sounded better.”
