FKA twigs has agreed to drop her long-running lawsuit against her former boyfriend Shia LaBeouf. According to documents obtained by Pitchfork, the musician and her lawyers filed a request to dismiss the complaint with prejudice, meaning that FKA twigs cannot refile the case.
In a joint statement shared with Pitchfork, attorneys Bryan J. Freedman and Shawn Holley said, on behalf of their respective clients, FKA twigs and Shia LaBeouf: “Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court. While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success, and peace in the future.”
FKA twigs originally sued Shia LaBeouf in December 2020, claiming that the actor subjected her to “relentless abuse,” sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress. She had been seeking $10 million in damages.
Speaking with The New York Times, FKA twigs further described the alleged abuse she endured during her relationship with LaBeouf. “What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” she said. “I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody.”
LaBeouf has long denied many of FKA twigs’ claims of abuse.
