Los Angeles, CA – The 2022 Emmy Awards nominations arrived on Tuesday morning (July 12) and with the show set to air on ABC come September 12, Kanye West and Dr. Dre were among the first-time Emmy nominees for this year. The West Coast icon earned the Emmy nom alongside 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and Eminem for their performance during this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
They’ll compete in the Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special category. Coodie & Chike’s three-part Jeen-Yuhs documentary surrounding the life of Kanye West is nominated in the Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series category.
With Yeezy serving as an executive producer on the Netflix doc, he collected the first nomination in his decorated career, too.
Donald Glover’s Atlanta series returned from a four-year hiatus to land on FX and Hulu with season three in March.
Glover is once again nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series thanks to his role as Earnest Marks, while the show will compete in Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour) and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
The Atlanta creator now boasts 10 Emmy nominations on his resume as he’s taken home a pair of trophies in the past for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series — where he was the first Black director to win — and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2017.
Tune into the 2022 Emmy Awards on September 12 on ABC.
