The Game has once again weighed in on the current state of hip-hop, asserting that the genre is missing a vital energy in the absence of Drake. During a recent conversation with Complex, the Los Angeles rapper expanded on his previous claims that the rap landscape is “down 50%” without the Toronto superstar’s presence.
“You gotta think… ever since Drake been quiet or chillin’ or not Drake in his usual, the world all f—ed up, bro,” The Game remarked. He expressed a sense of disillusionment with the current club atmosphere, noting, “You walk in the clubs, everybody on their phone, nobody looks like they’re having a good time no more. If you walked in the club today, what song would make you happy about being there right now?”
The Game clarified that his comments were not intended as a slight toward other rising artists, but rather a reflection on the specific impact Drake has had on the culture. “I’m not sh—tin’ on Yeat; I’m sayin’ this is why Drake needs to go up,” he added. “This sh— is sad without Drake in the club. It’s sad, bro.”
The rapper also touched upon the narrative surrounding Drake’s recent hiatus, suggesting that the artist may feel underappreciated by the industry. “But we got Drake out here feeling like we didn’t appreciate him, so now he tucked away working on Iceman, chillin’ like, ‘They don’t appreciate me.’ He should never feel that way.”
Following his high-profile feud with Kendrick Lamar, Drake has remained active in different capacities, releasing a significant volume of music, including a collaborative project with PARTYNEXTDOOR and various singles. Fans are currently awaiting the release of his upcoming album, Iceman, which is slated to arrive on May 15.
