Earl Sweatshirt Hangs With His Imposter in New “Crisco” Video: Watch

Before releasing his great new album, Live Laugh Love, Earl Sweatshirt played it for fans at a Los Angeles listening party. The thing was, the rapper was not there, instead sending an imposter the way that the late MF Doom used to do. Earl Sweatshirt is now giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the whole imposter process, via his new video for “Crisco.”

The new video, from director, producer, and editor Jimmy Regular, begins with a simple message: “earl was not looking forward to performing at his album listening party. instead, he decided to cast someone to embody his overall essence on stage.” From there, we see that Sweatshirt, his mother, and Zack Fox auditioned four men to fill in for the rapper. The obvious candidate was Gary Murakami, who spent some time with Sweatshirt to see what living life as the Californian is really like. The visual ends with Murakami’s stand-in performance for Sweatshirt at the party. Watch the “Crisco” video below.

“Crisco” is the second Live Laugh Love track to get a music video, following “Tourmaline.” The album follows 2022’s Sick! and the Alchemist collaboration Voir Dire.
